Strategy to control Mosquito

Mosquito population is a problem that is increasing fast due to monsoon season. The Aedes spp. is very dangerous as it is responsible for the spread of dengue and chikungunya. There is an influx of many mosquito control products in the market like small misting machines, mosquito traps, mosquito treated clothes, treated mosquito nets and many repellent devices. No mather what product you use always remember the below points:
- For mosquito control an integrated pest management (IPM) approach is the most effective. It includes reduction of adult mosquitoes, using adulticides, elimination of breeding and resting sites. Larvicides are used to control the development of larvae in water.
- Mosquitoes prefer dark and damp areas with very little or no air current. Trim the shrubs reduce ground cover to increase the light and the airflow.
- Protect yourself while on works by using repellents and full sleeve clothes. To avoid infectious mosquitos during high risk period use mosquito net.
- Many mosquito species can easily travel half a mile during good air current. Therefore, mosquito management requires a community effort.
